The fiscal year 2009 appropriations process is finally underway. NBCC advocates are hard at work fighting for $150 million for the Department of Defense peer-reviewed Breast Cancer Research Program. As Carolina Hinestrosa testified before the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee recently, much of the progress in the fight against breast cancer has been made possible by the $2 billion investment in the Breast Cancer Research Program that includes consumers in every aspect of decision-making. Continued investment is key to finding new methods to detect, prevent and treat breast cancer.

NBCC advocates successfully sought the support of their Members of Congress again this year -- 214 Representatives and 57 Senators signed letters to the appropriators supporting $150 million in funding for this Program. You can help now. Contact the Chair and Ranking Members of the Appropriations Defense Subcommittees and urge them to appropriate $150 million for the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program.
